Walking through January - Day 2

Writer: Re HarrissonRe Harrisson

Day 2 - Sunrise 9:17 am / Sunset 3:26 pm, Walking 3:10 - 4:05 pm

Sometimes it's not the walk, but it's what awaits you after the walk.

I have a childhood memory of coming home from a ski on a cold winter day and finding the house filled with the scent of chili and corn bread.

Chili is my winter comfort food. Today it was with lamb mince, red wine and assort beans, cooked four hours in the crock pot.

My walk was accompanied up hill by my mother and down hill by an Irish friend sheltering alone. I try to check in on my Irish friend once or twice a month - we discuss all the books we are reading. She'd just finished the Emily series by Lucy Maud Montgomery -- I'm working on The Poetic Edda, translated by Carolyne Larrington.

“You don’t have to chase around after creatures ... You watch them for long enough, and then you’ll find the place to wait and they’ll come to you. There’s nearly always a better way of doing something.”
