Service Description

For this winter/spring workshop we will focus on Scottish tales and tunes. After this workshop participants will - understand how to put traditional tunes into stories - feel confident in using their harp as a sound maker - have the tools to develop stories and make them their own - finish one long or two short story and tell it with the harp We will work on learning the tales using a variety of storytelling techniques. The tunes will be taught on You Tube video outside of the class, by ear (but you can read them if you like!). Materials: - An ebook with the written outlines of the stories and sheet music of the arrangements. There will be three tunes and several stories to choose from. The arrangements are written twice for each tune, once for advanced beginner and again for intermediate. The videos for the tunes and the sheet music will be available two weeks before the start of the course, if you want to get an early start with learning. Please note this is a storytelling course, so you will have the basic story information and together we will build up the tale. In these workshops participants use pictures and notes, instead of writing out the stories. You will need time to practice the tunes and practice the stories between sessions. Past participants have needed between one to five hours a week. (Most people simply use this time as part of their normal daily practice, but it you are getting ready for a gig, you might need some extra time for the workshop) For four meetings we will develop the stories and tunes. The last, fifth meeting will be a public Zoom Harp Story Circle where participants can perform and invited family and friends to attend online. Minimum of 3 participants to hold the course
