Anne-Marieke Meij - harpiste |
|
Anne-Marieke wrote an English opera together with composer Çağlayan Yıldız. This opera is full of humour and is on the edge between musical and opera. The instrumentation is small and the duration short, so it is ideal as an "in between'' or in combination with other music. |

Composition: Çağlayan Yıldız Libretto: Anne-Marieke Meij This opera explores the timeless web of relationships between man, woman, life, death, food and kitchenrobots. Kitch-en Opera sprang to life in the kitchen as you might expect by its name. Çağlayan and Anne-Marieke happen to cook once together and suddenly there was a huge explosion of musical inspiration. They sang about vegetables and fruits, pots and pans, kitchen utensils and cutlery. Passing the onion became an opera highlight this evening. Soon it became clear that these spontaneous improvisations needed to be saved for future generations. Anne-Marieke finally saw her chance to make her writer's aspirations happen. A whole new way of narrating the close relationship between drama and vegetables was invented. Is this a simple row about cooking or is there more than meets the eye? What is the role of the zucchini in this story? And finally what happens when there is the sound of the oven alarm? Length: 30 min Instrumentation: Soprano, Bariton, Violin, Clarinet, Harp, Percussion Previously played at the Operafestival 2005 at Zeist
